What is the Queer Collective’s goal at Dancing Rabbit?
We are a coalition of queer people who secure refuge, safety, resilience, and autonomy for ourselves and our peers across lines of intersectionality. We aim to do this by having fun together, building housing, and sharing resources where we can!

We are working on renovating a timber and cob building named Moonlodge to be our base of operations here at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage. Its purpose is to serve as housing for future queer work exchangers, host our food co-op for us to share meals together, hold a tool library for both ourselves and the wider community, and most importantly be a safe space for us all to enjoy life!

About Moonlodge:
Moonlodge is a beautiful 860-square-foot straw bale and cob building with additional loft space. Much of the wood was reclaimed locally, and the locust posts were harvested from our neighbor, Sandhill Farms.
One of the first projects will be renovating the porch. We’ll get our hands dirty with straw and cob patching up walls, breaking down pallets to create the porch ceiling, and building two ADA-compliant ramps. This space will hold a tool library that will serve both the queer collective and the wider community at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage.
From there we will focus on some essential improvements, including:
- Fixing the leaky roof
- Patching holes to keep the critters out
- Completing and constructing new walls, including a bottle wall feature
- Improving our electrical system
- Replastering sections of the exterior and creating a scrap glass mural
- Building bunk beds to increase our housing capacity
- Repairing the NE wall of the building.
With many more exciting projects to come!

What can you expect for accommodations?
There will be four indoor beds at Moonlodge available to those who need it and many tent platforms nearby. We use composting toilets at Dancing Rabbit which may take some getting used to. The indoor sleeping space will increase in quality as we renovate, but currently has its issues such as mold and possibly pests!
What do we do for fun at Dancing Rabbit?
When we aren’t working on moonlodge there are many fun and relaxing activities around the village. We have a swimming pond, a Finnish-style Sauna, and amazing stargazing and foraging opportunities. Weekly as a village, we have art days, jam (music) night, dance parties, song circles, and a potluck. Those of us in the queer collective have interests in art, tabletop RPGs, music, and dancing. Now that it’s spring we also have baby goats on farm!
