The big news of the week
from Sam at Dancing Rabbit
isn’t new, I’m afraid,
as we’re making a habit
of talking of weather:
it’s cold and it’s snowing.
(You’re probably familiar
with how this winter is going.)
Like many of you,
we too had a party,
with touchdowns and letdowns
and food that was hearty.
There were drinks to go with it
and so many friends
there was no place to sit
not full of rear ends.
Some Rabbits, this week,
have found their way home.
Some were dancing,
some with family,
and some just like to roam.
We’re glad that they’re back now,
We shared joyful greetings.
Skype’s not as good
as face to face meetings.
When we can’t be together—
we’re in town or whatever—
sometimes the cars might get
stuck in bad weather.
Or maybe someone wants to ask for a favor
“Could you pick up some screws,
and a pack of life savers?”
We try to plan ride shares
with meetings and web tools
but things do come up
that we didn’t expect to.
When an errand’s remembered
or a car gets in trouble
it’s groovy to let someone know, on the double.
So the vehicle co-op will now have a ‘phone
for folks to sign out if they don’t have their own.
Every year at DR we have a retreat
the word sounds a bit like admitting defeat.
Quite the opposite is true,
don’t worry, I assure you:
starting next week we’ll gather to talk and to do
things that affect every one of us here
like choosing our goals and dividing up roles
for the upcoming year.
I’m pleased to report
a new trend is growing
toward shoveling our paths
what with all of this snowing.
Kurt tried a few things
and built an invention
that I certainly hope he won’t mind that I mention.
You push it along while standing erect
the snow gets displaced
and your back won’t get wrecked.
That’s pretty much it
so farewell ’til next time
(though I really can’t promise
I’ll write it in rhyme).
