Dancing Rabbit Membership Agreement
One must agree to the following terms in order to become a member of Dancing Rabbit. Members and residents also agree to the covenants of the Dancing Rabbit Land Trust when they move here.
As a member of Dancing Rabbit, Inc.:
- I agree to help Dancing Rabbit achieve its stated goals and mission.
- I agree to pay dues (money and time) as set by the membership, in a timely manner.
- I will participate in an inclusive democratic decision making structure of Dancing Rabbit government (or consciously waive my right to express my opinions) and abide by the decisions made, including those made before my membership in Dancing Rabbit. I understand that a democratic government depends on the integrity of its participants and their commitment to the ideals of trust, respect, self-empowerment, cooperation, equal access to power, and non-violence.
- I agree to give up my membership upon request of the members, at their will and for any reason(s), according to the process outlined in Dancing Rabbit’s bylaws.
- I agree to resolve conflict peacefully and be open to the use of mediation.
- I am committed to pioneering a lifestyle that will serve as an example of ecological sustainability, as explained in the Sustainability Guidelines. I will weigh the implications of my actions, continually striving to minimize my negative impact and increase my positive impact on the Earth. I will participate in the creation of a physical and social structure and culture that will move us towards long term sustainability.
- I am committed to the vision of diverse membership of Dancing Rabbit and will not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, creed, age, ability, educational level, or economic background. I will attempt to minimize barriers to members of minority groups wishing to participate.
- I understand that part of the Dancing Rabbit mission is to serve as an example of sustainable living through outreach and education. I understand that Dancing Rabbit will continually pursue this goal by being open to new members (as resources allow), guests, and visitors and by publicizing the actions and activities of our community.
- For clarity, Dancing Rabbit’s mission is included here:
- To create a society, the size of a small town or village, made up of individuals and communities of various sizes and social structures, which allows and encourages its members to live sustainably*. To encourage this sustainable society to grow to have the size and recognition necessary to have an influence on the global community by example, education, and research.
*Sustainably: In such a manner that, within the defined area, no resources are consumed faster than their natural replenishment, and the enclosed system can continue indefinitely without degradation of its internal resource base or the standard of living of the people and the rest of the ecosystem within it, and without contributing to the non-sustainability of ecosystems outside.
