Community Agroforestry
Agroforestry is the intentional integration of trees and forest-crops like fruit, nuts and botanical products on working farms. Adoption of these practices can improve economic outcomes for farmers while improving ecosystem services for habitat, clean water, and soil health.
In 2023, with support from CSCC and various donors, members of the Tri-Communities began a long-term cooperative project to improve food access and ecosystem functions within the Fabius River watershed by implementing agroforestry demonstrations. As of January 2026, this yet unnamed project has planted and maintained 5.5 acres of high-value tree crops, with an additional 11 acres of silvopasture due to be planted over the next year.
