Wonderfully written. Thank you. This article, like the headstone, makes for a welcome touchstone and remembrance of Tamar’s final (and ongoing) gift to the village and our lives.

I’m so grateful to have been with you all, and Tamar. It was after participating and watching this ceremony that I wanted to have the same funeral. I still toy with the idea, but I’m also evaluating donating my body to the U of Tennessee’s Forensic Anthropology Center. Both of these ideas strike my soul where it matters. Thanks for sharing this writing.

I was horrified to find out that not only her middle daughter had ovarian cancer and subsequently died but that her oldest daughter was also stricken and died 2 years ago.
I have tried to locate her youngest daughter born in 1959 and think I have succeeded in finding her location. After reading your blog I feel much relieved to see that she has finally found a place to call”home”. I hope that she has been tested for ovarian cancer and keeps up-to-date with checkups. I am not giving you her name to protect her privacy but I feel certain that she has at last found peace and love.
