Timber Framing a Real Deal Barn: Join Us?

Sustainable growth and building a life without debt are two things that are important to me. This is Mae, and my family and I are embarking on our sixth year here at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage. Along the way we've embraced the permaculture principle of small and slow solutions, spending more time focusing on design than getting everything done at once. It's more affordable that way, too. So we've gradually grown our flock of chickens, the goat herd, and our physical infrastructure. For example, to build our first shelter for the animals, we started with a $200 load of materials that…read more >
Starting a New Chapter: My Dancing Rabbit Visit

Starting a New Chapter: My Dancing Rabbit Visit

by Ryan Morris It has been eight months since my Dancing Rabbit (DR) visitor session, and every step since then has been a step back toward DR. I still remember walking up the main path into the village and seeing Javi on the swing in front of the common house, with a big smile on his face. That day was spent meeting other visitors and the few Rabbits who had time in their hectic summer schedules to mingle with the new crop of visitors. Life in intentional community is busy. No, you don’t need a TV, as there is always…read more >
Bittersweet Winter: A Dancing Rabbit Update

Bittersweet Winter: A Dancing Rabbit Update

I don't think I've ever checked thermometers so religiously in my life. As a native Coloradoan I'm no stranger to the cold and snow, but this is my first winter at Dancing Rabbit and staying warm is a little more complicated than cranking up the thermostat. This is Cameron, one of the newest residents here, I just arrived at the beginning of December. I'm not sure I would recommend moving here in the winter, but it's been a remarkably soft landing for me. I'm living in a cozy strawbale house with an attached greenhouse and beautiful interior woodwork. My neighbor…read more >
Joy and Snow: A Dancing Rabbit Update

Joy and Snow: A Dancing Rabbit Update

This is the time of year for reflection: How was 2017? Did I accomplish all that I hoped to this year? What goals do I have for the coming year? How can I improve in 2018? Each year, like clockwork, these questions arise from within me and help me continue to strive for more meaning, peace, and connection in my life. Melany here, writing while bundled up in many layers, very different from the last time you heard from me. The unseasonably warm 60 degree days have turned into the harsh reality of -15 degrees, or -30 when accounting for…read more >
Gratitude and Giving: A Recipe for Success

Gratitude and Giving: A Recipe for Success

The winter holidays are my favorite time of year. I secretly love when the Christmas music starts taking over the radio waves and the lights begin to decorate the town square. Although the Midwest has yet to deliver some of the winter wonderland that I grew up with in the Northeast, it still feels like a time of hope, gratitude, and love all wrapped up in a bow. Melany here, writing for the first time, as we stroll into the holiday season with balmy spring weather. I often feel a rush of joy when I get to experience an unseasonably…read more >

Wondering what you might expect? That was in part what led me to Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage in 2005. Over the last decade living here,…read more >
