As a member of Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage I’m always surprised by the reactions from first-time visitors to our little town. The spirit of DIY is strong among our residents. It’s a lifestyle of creation instead of consumption and lots of folks are inspired by what we do. Folks come to the village to learn about our hand-built homes, our local currency, our system of governance, the composting systems we have in place, and much more.
The village’s immersive visitor program lasts between one and three weeks, which not everyone can manage. Because of this the Milkweed Mercantile Eco Inn & Cafe at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage focuses on shorter programs to share valuable life skills in less time!
The joys of organic gardening can be sustained through the winter by learning some powerful food preservation techniques. Rabbits have been using some of the most common methods for almost 20 years (this September we celebrate our anniversary!). The Mercantile is offering Preserving the Harvest – the Basics of Fermenting, Canning and Cheesemaking, Thursday, July 27 – Sunday, July 30. This 19-hour hands-on weekend features three long-term members of Dancing Rabbit, all of them passionate about their particular aspect of food preservation. Come help us celebrate food as love, food as nourishment, food as community!
Sometimes creating the life we want involves surrounding ourselves with people who encourage us or share our interests. The Milkweed Mercantile’s 2017 Writers’ Workshop: Digging Deep, Practicing Courage and Speaking Out is an all-level workshop taught by Franciszka Voeltz. The workshop will take place over three full days and two half-days. Time will be spent writing, discussing writing, sharing ideas, compassionately critiquing, and thinking about writing. Whether your writing is for therapy, pleasure, or profit, this workshop can support your goals while you visit America’s most famous ecovillage.
DIY — doing it yourself — starts with learning together. Join us this summer for one (or more!) of our fun and informative workshops at the Milkweed Mercantile at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage.
You can find more information on Mercantile workshops here, and I hope to see you here this summer!
