Spring is Rabbit Season!

Living in the country has kept Dancing Rabbit on its toes in the past few months. Our garden is churning and brewing and doing some Earth magic with the seedlings that were just planted. Strawberries growing next to fava beans are a beautiful sight. You can read more about our spring garden antics in "Rabbits in the Garden!"

We have entertained many visitors since the beginning of spring, some with interest in moving onto DR land as soon as it is purchased. Many people felt that we needed to plow through the paper work required to start a huge project like the building of an ecovillage. DR members have spent many hours in meetings this past week trying to crank through Sustainability Guidelines, Membership Agreements, 6 and 12 month goals, visitor space, and more. We have consensed to have weekly DR meetings, but have not put the schedule in place yet. Reflections on meeting with so many visitors can be found in Rachel's article "Not There Yet."

Wednesday nights we meet with Sandhill. The weekly dinners are a wonderful way for all of us to relax, have a nice meal, and be social without working. The two communities have grown into a great relationship of work and play. Tempeh is selling well, we're cutting wood for fall sorghum fires, and space is being shared. Sandhill celebrated their 23rd anniversary on May 3rd. The party began at two in the afternoon, going until the wee hours of the morning with a great dinner, a May Pole dance, blazing fire, sweat lodge, canoeing, singing, guitar pickin', and general silliness and merriment. Several other communitarians came to join in the celebration, as well as local friends and former Sandhill members.

The long awaited arrival of Rachel Freifelder has come and gone. Read about Rachel's adventures in her article "Long Journey Home." We are happily reintegrating Rachel into this new DR life, and she has plugged herself into many of the needed projects around the house, garden, and general DR work. Jack has rolled over for her, an obvious sign of approval, and we are all pleased to have Rachel with us again!

Cecil is teaching computer classes, Halle's birth assistant clients are coming due, Aaron has successfully pulled down a barn, Tony has been working hard on the computer, Star keeps the FIC office running smoothly, Rachel has been tilling the Earth, and Jack is twice the size as when he was born. And, we still found time to attend Earth Day in Columbia, MO, and get the word about Dancing Rabbit out on the streets. Whew!!! That's a lot of work!

We hope you enjoy reading the March Hare, and encourage you to write or email us with any letters, comments, or questions about what you read. Have a great spring.
