DR on TV -- keep your fingers crossed
Will a mainstream media outlet portray an ecovillage respectfully and intelligently? Is all publicity really good publicity? Do the majority of people we want to reach even have televisions? And was it worth the hassle?

Johari and Vito
This is just a sampling of the various
questions knocking around Rabbits' heads as we
await our US television debut.
Documentarian Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me)
sent New Yorkers Johari Jenkins and Vito Summa,
a deejay and a bartender/bouncer, to DR for a
month to experience life off the grid. At the
same time, we got the chance to experience how
folks not particularly interested in our mission
would react to our lifestyle.
Although the pair-- who are incredibly sweet-natured and funny-- clearly pined for things about their city lives (hairdryers, easily accessible meat, nightlife, etc.), they also saw how their daily choices do affect the environment.
On the other side of things, it was valuable
for us to see earthen plastering, car sharing,
gardening, water catchment-- and all the other
various aspects of our lives that we more or less
take for grante-- through fresh eyes. What we
gain by sharing community and basic ecological
values became as sharply obvious as the challenges
we face.
The tangible results of the experience (condensed
to an hour-long episode titled ''Off the Grid'')
is scheduled to air on Wednesday, July 13 as part
of the FX network's 30 Days series. Look for more
on our 30 Days experience in an upcoming March
Hare or on our website (www.dancingrabbit.org),
