Hooray! We're thrilled to announce that there is a new Rabbit in our midst, and she's small and cute as can be. Sarah Joy was born at 6 am on April 12 at a healthy 7.5 lbs and 21.5 inches.
Halle' labored for 9 hours before a smooth birth.
Excitement was in the air when the labor started. Everyone else here packed up and headed over to stay with our neighbors at Sandhill, so Aaron and Halle' would have private space for the labor. As the labor progressed, Halle' and Aaron headed into the local hospital, where they had the entire maternity ward to themselves (no other babies being born this week). Although Halle's doctor and a pediatrician were there, the birth was primarily attended by Diana, Halle's midwife, and Aaron. Aaron had the pleasure of catching the baby and cutting the cord. The birth went off without a hitch and Halle' looked surprisingly refreshed and well rested. Aunt Jenn brought Jack up to meet his new sister later that morning. Jack was very excited and sweetly hugged her and gave her kisses the whole time. He's been excited to finally see the baby, and, being the son of a midwife, knows more about the birthing process than most teenagers.
Although Halle' and Aaron were still at the hospital, the other Rabbits sang Happy Birthday for our pre-dinner song. A few nights after the baby was born, the whole group had a birthday cake and gave their wishes and hopes for Sarah's life, which certainly promises to be a rich one.
