It may be hard to believe as we watch the sleet sluice down, but it's Spring.
We Rabbits have begun gardening and building, and the huge influx of new faces for 2001 has just begun!
Our first intern (Megan) has arrived, along with new member Cedar (nè Michal). In addition, four new Dancing Rabbit "residents" (people who stay for awhile, but who aren't members) are coming this month. They are ex-interns Tamar and Mark, a college-friend-turned-architect Brad, and Rainbow from Acorn community in Virginia. As if that wasn't enough, Don is now a full DR member, too!
Along with our normal run of cool visitors, we've hosted college classes from Truman State and Drake Universities and are looking forward to more. As a result, it's been a month of population ups and downs. One day, we had 24 people at lunch...and three at dinner.
In other news, Don's seedlings have already borne the hardship of their first transplanting, and it's almost time for the first Spring spinach from our coldframes. The maple trees (with help from Kurt and others) produced a record 21-gallon harvest. Cecil has brewed the first batches of 2001 homebrew, a stout so vigorous it exploded out of its fermenting vessel all over the mirror in his room. Drink up! Skyhouse's gung-ho new builders Roger and Lisa are working hard on the second-story frame of the building, adding a new look to the Dancing Rabbit skyline.
As you can see, life has been busy! To round things out, we've been active locally as well. Cecil was somehow elected president of the Board of Directors of the Rutledge Fire Department (a crack volunteer unit) and Cecil, Rachel, and Tony went to a revival at the New Testament Church in Rutledge. Farther afield, Alline and Kurt are in California for a month and Rachel and Tony will soon travel to China with Tony's family. We're looking forward to May when almost all of us will be home again.
Warm weather still awaits us, but Spring is definitely here.
