Snowshoe hares
People often ask us "does it snow there at Dancing Rabbit?" and if they were here now they'd know the answer: YES! We've had snowfall after beautiful snowfall and so it's been a time to sled, cross-country ski, toboggan, and observe the trees, birds and rabbits covered with ice and snow. Luckily, we've been staying warm in our strawbale homes. Once plastered, bale houses do live up to their billing as easy to heat and very comfortable.
Our intern, visitor, and guest population has been low the past couple of months, and we've been taking the time to read, relax, and experience each other in a more intimate social setting. With a smaller group to cook for, some folks have been experimenting with exotic cuisines and elaborate dinners, including country-fried tempeh and Ethiopian cuisine. We ate exceptionally well during our annual week-long retreat, when interns Laurie and Debra cooked for us while we sat in meetings.
Ah yes, our annual retreat! It's a time for us to slow down and give good attention to deeper issues than we can get at in our weekly meetings. This includes emotional issues, planning the upcoming year, resolving interpersonal conflict, or simply issues that take a long time to discuss. To help us out, we brought in expert facilitator Tree Bressen to keep us on track. And, the retreat went very well. A big part was planning the upcoming year. While not everything is set in stone, we have a good plan for what we'd like to accomplish in 2001, and sure enough, it's another doozy. We're looking to continue construction work on the buildings currently in progress, move an old house here from two miles away and maybe even renovate it into community space, host another gaggle of interns, and welcome several new members. We also hope to continue growing together as a group, getting to know and support each other and have time for art, music, dancing, and our venerable book club. We are also open to accepting kids again! We can imagine having two to three children join us in the upcoming year. We're expecting this year's DR kids to be at least 5 years old, but we encourage all interested parents to contact us.
We've started having visitors again, so if you'd like to be part of all this excitement, please call or write to find out more or arrange a visit. We'd love to hear from you!
