Laura again, filling in for Rachel. This Friday at our
community dinner, Alyson decided it was the week of
"show-and-tell." Interesting things have been coming
in the mail nonstop. So, a big thanks to all the
postal service folks is in order.
Nicole and Thomas got a hand-crank grainmill that they
are planning to hook up to a stationary bicycle. We
are all excited to try it out, especially those of us
whose arms already get more of a workout than we'd
like.
The same day, seed donations to DR Inc. started
arriving. (So far, quite a few exciting medicinal
herbs!) This coming growing season, we will hopefully
increase the diversity of seed saved. We can begin
beautifying more areas of our village, as well.
Earlier in the week, two big boxes came from Alline to
the "women of Dancing Rabbit." We treasure her
thoughtfulness, but miss having her right here on-farm
with us.
It's quieter than usual around here, as people
continue to depart to spend holiday time with their
families. Sara, Ted, Stef, and Arjen all left on
Tuesday. I've been enjoying house-sitting for Arjen
and Stef, but am looking forward to their return.
This week's Memphis adventures included going with Amy
to get her driver's license and library card. In her
own words, she is happy to be official. Jacque, Amy,
and I also chatted with Jim at Nishida Upholstery for
the first time. It is always a real pleasure to make
new friends out-and-about. Good neighbors have such
power to make a place feel like home.
