Even though we have seen some ice on the pond, the weather has continued to be unseasonably warm for late November. This weekend it was so warm and sunny, I took a walk out on some of the cross country skiing paths Ted mowed on the land. Not only did I run into the biggest flock of Cedar Waxwings I'd even seen, I kept seeing other Rabbits out and about enjoying the weather.
We had a truly lovely Thanksgiving celebration. Many people are out of town and I thought it would be quite small. But once all the folks from Sandhill and Red Earth Farms came over, the living room of Skyhouse was packed with 35 people seated for the feast. And what a feast it was! Our thanksgivings are potlucks and have always included a mix of traditional and unique. This year we had both turkey (raised at Sandhill) and a stuffed tofu turkey-equivalent (made by Cecil). I love eating until I'm stuffed, comparing the different styles of cranberry sauce. Since my eating co-op hosted the meal, extra leftovers were left with us and we didn't cook for days.
It was also a really nice opportunity to catch up with friends and neighbors. Sandhill members had all their (mostly grown) kids present; a first for them. After dinner, we sat sleepily singing songs and playing a game some call "The Best Game In The World." Each person starts with a piece of paper and writes a sentence at the top. They pass it to the next person, who draws a picture to illustrate the sentence, then folds over the sentence so it cannot be seen. They pass it to the next person who writes a sentence to describe the picture, and it goes on from there. This form of "telephone" usually ends up with hilarious results.
We've seen lots of neighbors and strangers around with rifles and safety orange. Tim likes to cure leather and is looking for deer legs and hides that folks do not want. Give a call if you have any to get rid of.
