by Rachel Katz The weather has been just beautiful and I think many of us have been doing
our best to enjoy it, in work and play. Mark and Megan have been hard at
work insulating their cabin for winter. Folks have been harvesting sweet
potatoes out of the garden. Skyhouse prepped their house and then had wet
blown cellulose insulation installed. Many folks have taken walks on our
land, enjoying the fall colors and lack of ticks. And its been nice to eat
lunch out on the lawn and bask in the autumn sun.
We've had many comings and goings this week. Alline went to Houston to a
huge quilt show, where she met up with her mother and some of her mother's
friends. Tony came back from his meeting in Tucson, AZ. Allison, who
visited a few months ago, came back for another visit. She will be
returning this winter to stay for awhile and most likely become a member.
Sara and Ted, residents who have been living with us since midsummer, left
to attend to Ted's young nephew, since his sister-in-law broke her ankle.
They will be back to help cook while we have a whole group retreat in
January.
On Halloween, we got spooky. After a dinner of ghoulishly named dishes, we
dimly lit the temporary strawbale house in the outdoor kitchen. Folks told
scary stories, both true and fictional. Everyone escorted each other to
bed under the full moon so no one would get attacked by the ghosts.
Several folks went to the last soccer game of the season of our ex-intern
Emily at Truman State. She is a senior, so this was an important game.
Even though they ended up losing during overtime, we are very proud of her
work as goalie.
We had some lovely visitors for the Saturday tour. June Meecham and three
of her friends from Illinois came by and were very lucky to have such nice
weather.
As the weather will be getting colder and we will be housing a record 16
people this winter, we need more small wood heating stoves. If you have
one you'd like to get rid of, give us a call.
Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage is a nonprofit and a residential community that
demonstrates ecological sustainability in Rutledge, MO. We have tours the
first and third Saturday of the month at 1pm and the next tour (and last
tour until Spring) is November 17th. Please call first at 883-5511.
