Hello, it's Alyson again while Rachel is on the east coast. First of
all I have to say that having grown up in New England amid a
baseball-loving family, I'm a member of the far-flung Red Sox
Nation... and I almost don't care what happens the next couple
nights in St. Louis, I'm so glad we beat the Yankees. There are no
TVs at Dancing Rabbit to watch the games on, but I may just go out
and find one this week.
Anyway, it's great to finally get some sunshine after all the rain
we've been having. A lot of Rabbits were seen in in Zimmermans on
Saturday, taking advantage of the nice weather to have a walk across
the fields.
On Wednesday Jacque and I drove one of our biodiesel cars down to
Fulton, MO (outside Columbia), where a professor at Westminster
College had invited us to give some talks to students and faculty
about Dancing Rabbit. They have a lot of international students
there, and since Jacque and I have both lived abroad we enjoyed
sharing stories and speaking with them in their native languages.
We're hoping a few of them will take us up on our invitation to visit
DR.
Some dramatic changes are happening this month at Dancing Rabbit. At
the end of the month we're finally moving out of the rented
double-wide trailer that has been our "common house" since we first
bought land here in 1997. So people have been emptying their personal
things out of the trailer and we've cleared room for some of the
furniture in one of our large sheds. Next week will be the big
move-out party.
At the same time, our new Community Building is receiving its
finishing touches. Penn, Tom, and Thomas have been completing the
back porch, which houses the boiler. The kitchen has hosted a couple
of potlucks and parties already, and will soon have a plumbed sink.
And Tamar announced that one of the bathrooms is now ready for
showers--and soon will have hot water.
One of the parties we had this week was a birthday bash for Stefanie.
We had hors d'oeuvres, danced to a couple of mixed CDs that she and
Penn had made, and then a few of us headed for the sauna and finally
a VERY quick dip in the pond. Wow, that water is cold!
On Saturday Amy's friend Juan left after his week-long visit. I hear
he may be interested in moving here early next year. Amy's smile and
laugh are even more delightful when he's around. Cecil and Tony also
left on Saturday, Cecil bound for California to visit friends, and
Tony heading for some meetings in Florida. We'll miss them.
