Usually this time of year things start to slow down and interns make their
way home. This year is different. We have more visitors than members
right now, and we had two interns show up this week: Minna, who is a
student at Stanford University in CA and Debra, who recently graduated from
Brandeis University, outside of Boston. We're excited to have them both
here.
The Scotland County High School sociology class came by for a tour, with
their instructor Barbara Campbell. Neighbor Bob Greenley has been stopping
by and unloading some of the mill ends from his job at Cardwell Lumber, for
us to use as firewood.
With the cold weather coming in, we decided to pack up our outdoor summer
kitchen and rebuild the temporary straw bale house inside it for folks to
live in this winter. Jess managed a crew for two days and they are almost
done. With so many interns staying into the colder months, we're creating
a bunk house for them there.
Jacob conducted a tree mulching expedition this week and got about half of
our thousands of trees mulched in one day.
Communities Magazine, a publication of the Fellowship of Intentional
Community which is based at Sandhill Farm, was printed this week. A group
of folks, led by Cecil, went over to the office and shipped out the
magazines to distributors and individuals.
Don directed a apple cider pressing and applesauce canning party that
lasted much of one day. We ended up with about 5 gallons of cider canned
and several dozen quarts of applesauce.
Susan taught an evening session on co-counseling, a method of peer
counseling that she has learned elsewhere and we all had the opportunity to
practice.
