by Rachel Katz I'm writing from Champaign-Urbana where Tony, Tamar and I are
guests-in-residence at the University of Illinois for a week. We are
talking to students about our experiences at Dancing Rabbit. But we were
home for this past exciting week.
We've been canning like crazy. The garden is producing plenty of
vegetables, but we've also been canning the lovely fruit that folks let us
pick from their orchards. Bryan Crowl and Lorraine Kapfer invited us to
come pick pears, apples, and grapes and we enjoyed eating them fresh and
putting them away for winter. And the Yorks in Memphis were kind enough to
give us some of their canning jars, and we were glad because we're almost
out! If anyone has quart canning jars they don't use anymore, we'd be happy
to take them off your hands.
Kurt started putting finish plaster on his and Alline's house. Alline went
out of town to attend meeting of the Sierra Club, an organization which she
leads backpacking trips through. She unfortunately missed another Quilt
Guild Meeting in Kirksville. But I went and finally joined the group,
after joining several members for dinner at Aileron's.
It was Susan Brown's birthday this week and we went roller skating to
celebrate. Ted made pizza and chocolate cake at Susan's request. Good
clean fun was had by all. Shortly after Susan left to attend a family
wedding and little Tom went to visit former intern Mukluk in Ontario,
Canada.
Jeffrey's mother, Lynn, visited for a few days from Atlanta, GA. She taught
some folks to knit and helped with the food processing. She also helped
organize the bonfire recognizing the autumn equinox. Folks sang songs,
played music and enjoyed the fire and clear night.
