We are so pleased to welcome home Alline, Jacob and Timothy. We
missed them all. We did have plenty of folks drop by though. Brad
Gregory and Daven Newman of Memphis came by for a tour on Saturday.
Ray Chancellor and Al Tripp of Rutledge stopped by this week as
well. Also, intern Alexis and I had a lunch date with Representative Sam
Berkowitz at the Pizza Hut in Memphis and learned more about state
politics.
The hectic event schedule has continued around here. I had a
birthday party at the Roller Rena in Kahoka, with Indian food for
dinner brought down from Fairfield, IA. Folks from Sandhill joined us
for our evening of delicious food, ping pong and roller skating.
A bunch of folks went to Thousand Hills Park near Kirksville to
volunteer in a butterfly count. Those who went not only learned how to
identify butterflies, but learned about many new plants, including a rare
orchid that they stumbled upon. And learned a little too much about seed
ticks too!
There was a day trip out to Dan and Nancy Kelly's place in Canton.
Folks worked all day in their organic orchard picking apples and
pressing cider by hand. We all enjoyed the fresh pressed cider, even
though it was hard work! And they had trouble fitting all the apples into
the car on the way home.
The all day canning parties have continued happening a few times a
week. We must be getting a lot of food put away because we had to buy a
new case of canning lids.
The folks working on the second floor decking of Skyhouse have been
spending long hot days in the sun. But their progress is obvious and we
appreciate their hard work. Kurt has been finishing the electrical wiring
of his house before he lays any more bales.
We welcome folks to come by for a tour Saturdays at 1pm, but please
call first at 883-5511.
