This is Rachel, typing from my brand new computer. It was a birthday present from my parents, picked out and configured by Cecil. I've been so excited about it, people have started to roll their eyes every time I open my mouth because my sentence usually starts with, "My computer..." But it is awfully handy for writing these columns.
We had our usual busy week, complete with a variety show, apple picking at our friend's orchard and tons and tons of visitors and guests. There have been big visible changes, like Ted and Sara's earthen floor going in, the plaster on the outside of Skyhouse being completed, and lots of new posts going up in Ironweed's kitchen. After such a fun and busy week we were really sad to send off a big group carpooling out East. Amy is taking back the car her parents lent her to move out here. While she was already going, Jayd moved out to start his new job at a school, Thomas went to pick up his partner Nicole in Buffalo, NY to come to live here, Don went for a long vacation and Penn went to DC to visit friends. Phew, they really know how to share a car.
I've been thinking that it might help our neighbors get to know us better if I highlighted a Rabbit each week. Please meet Jacque Funk. Jacque comes from mid-Missouri, Huntsville to be exact. Before coming to Dancing Rabbit, she focused her time teaching special needs students in Huntsville, Columbia and Kirksville. A couple of her years of teaching also involved teaching English as a foreign language in China. She now spends her time here setting up visits for people, building her house, sewing and watching the Rabbits eat up what she planted in the gardens! Whenever possible, she offers her help as a substitute teacher, helping fulfill her desire to be around children.
Jacque likes to be active. It is not uncommon to find her playing ultimate Frisbee, doing tai chi, running, doing yoga or swimming. She has her less active side too. She enjoys attending to her plants, especially her avocado trees. Most people would say that she's a quiet person, at least upon first meeting her, which she agrees with. However she's not as likely to admit that she is a health nut, even though many people here would say that she is. She loves observing nature, from a beautiful pink sunset in any season to newly hatched mourning doves to the tender flowers of pink crowned vetch.
