by Rachel Katz Its been another busy and exciting week at Dancing Rabbit. It was
especially busy during Kids Weekend when seven kids, from four families,
visited for the weekend and were joined by Abbie Clatt from Memphis and
Corey from Sandhill Farm. The kids swam, sculpted with clay, painted their
new kids sized furniture, sang and enjoyed a bonfire.
Also on the farm, Penn returned from visiting his family for two weeks and
was brought back by his father. He returned as a member, instead of an
intern. Brian and Masha, interns from last year, drove in to visit for a
week. We have a new construction intern, Sedge. He is from Colorado but
spent the last few years in the Dominican Republic through the Peace Corps.
Leah has also arrived to work on building Skyhouse. She lives in Tucson
and came here via her native Saint Louis where she spent a few weeks
visiting family.
We couldn't only have people arrive or we'd quickly be overwhelmed. Martha
left us to return to her home in Canada. Her going away party involved a
treasure hunt that led everyone to a bonfire and little screened structure
the interns had built as a surprise. Oh, and we can't forget the homemade
donuts and banana muffins.
Karly, Nicole and Jillian have been having coffee at Zimmermans every
Saturday for these last few months they've been here as interns. This
weekend they were officially inducted into the Rutledge Renegades. We
can't wait to see them in their official t-shirts!
Tony, Betsy and I spent the weekend up in Milwaukee. Tony and Betsy went
to play Ultimate Frisbee with Truman State's team at a big tournament.
They had a great time and the Truman team placed pretty well. I tagged
along to visit Lindsey and Bri. Lindsey worked construction on Skyhouse in
the spring. They are both Truman State grads and moved up to Milwaukee to
go to graduate school.
Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage is a nonprofit and a residential community that
demonstrates ecological sustainability in Rutledge, MO. We give a tour
every Saturday at 1pm. Please call first before coming by, at 883-5511.
