I'm back home after a 6 day trip to our nation's capital, to gain
skills in grassroots organizing. It was fun to go away to such an
exciting city and get to witness our government in action. But the
best part of any trip is coming home.
And I came home to a big obvious change at Dancing Rabbit. There is
a white tin roof on Kurt and Alline's building that wasn't there last
week. It was fun to go away for just a few days and come back to a
whole new look in the neighborhood.
The garden is teeming with delicious vegetables, keeping lots of
folks in the kitchen canning. The rabbits know that the garden has
the good stuff, because they manage to get in despite chicken wire
fences. When Don isn't busy catching rabbits, he is planting the
fall crops of root vegetables, broccoli and cabbage.
We were visited early one morning by Luke Zimmerman and a big truck
full of bricks and debris from the burned out building in Memphis.
Our intern Alexis ordered it to use for erosion control on our land.
Alexis also planned a trip with Jacob and a visitor to Lek Trek, an
event held to educate about and celebrate the prairie chicken. They
enjoyed the opportunity to see native wildflowers and grasses that we
hope to someday be growing on our land.
We also enjoyed a visit from Marvin and Helen Martin of Memphis and
their friends Bob and Dianne Clark of Douglass, KS during our regular
Saturday tour. The tour was led by Kurt, who is a Kansas City
native, and it was soon discovered that the Clark's knew Kurt's
uncle. Its a small world.
Tony has been struggling with tendonitis, a new injury for him. He's
been taking a break from building Skyhouse and had his first visit
with Gorin chiropractor, Edwin Herr. We all hope he gets better
soon. In the meantime, Tony, Jeffrey and Jacob have been leading an
overhaul of the website. We've had our website for many years and
the internet (and Dancing Rabbit) has improved much since then.
Look out for a whole new look in a few weeks.
We welcome folks to come by for a tour Saturdays at 1pm, but please
call first at 883-5511.
