I can't figure it out. According to the weather, it is October. But the tomatoes, sweet corn and blackberries remind me it really is July. But I couldn't help but go out and cut some firewood, just in case.
Dan's house is going up faster than the weeds. He and Tom put up a roof in just one day and have started the internal walls. For about 24 hours I thought his sister was coming, until the truck arrived with his cistern.
Ironweed finished taking the siding off the old Boy Scout building in Memphis. While the rest of Ironweed was gone, Sara put on her toolbelt and built a mighty nice stand for the water cachement. Ironweed also put up the cedar posts for their kitchen.
Don has been traveling around inspecting organic farms. And Skyhouse went down to Plevna to cut firewood from the branches of trees cut for lumber.
Unfortunately, they went when it was 95, instead of 75. They said that on the way home they got the best cola flavored icee EVER.
Alyson traveled to Vermont to go to a wedding. Kurt and Alline barely had time to unpack before they and their dog Baloo headed west to take care of Alline's ailing mother. The night before they left they did a slide show of their trip walking across Great Britain. And we presented them with a goody box of treats to sustain them on their cross country drive, including sticks for Baloo to chew on. We hope they don't stay away too long.
Luckily, Penn arrived home from his family outing in time to cheer us up.
Tamar, Penn, Amy, and Cecil (and maybe others?) have been warming up their strings to play for a contra dance in the fall. Tamar has been keeping in shape with her weekly fiddle lessons with Abbie Clatt. A small group have begun a daily meditation time just before dinner every day. And Tony attended the Scotland County Democratic Committee meeting this week. He enjoyed getting to meet all our various representatives and candidates, and felt very welcomed.
And don't let me forget! We have a new resident. His name is Solrey. He arrived last week as a visitor and has decided to stay on for a few months and try things on, to see if he would like to stay long term.
