Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage

Alyssa here giving you the scoop from Dancing Rabbit this week. While Dancing Rabbit hasn't changed much in the past three months (except for the weather), I realize that my life here is drastically different. Yes, I may still go about doing the usual things, but I almost always have a small child attached to my hip. It makes for interesting meals and meetings, where I most certainly spend most of my time standing instead of sitting. With that, I am also not always able to attend all the social gatherings that I once did. I hate to say it, but I sometimes do prioritize Zane's sleeping over my fun. That said, here is my interpretation of what went on this week.

It seems like lots of committees are meeting on a regular basis this time of year. From the Visitor Team to the Pet Committee, many of us serve on one or more committee in an effort to help Dancing Rabbit run smoothly. As many folks leave town during December and our annual retreat falls at the end of January, it seems like many committees are meeting to get up to speed for the year.

Dancing Rabbit, working with ExperienceWorks, has hired Bob from Gorin to help out with some projects around the village. Bob started on Friday and already jumped right in with some small repairs in the common house. It is fun to work so closely with a local neighbor.

Bear and I hosted the movie, Sicko, on Wednesday night. For those who don't know what Sicko is about, it is basically a documentary by Michael Moore about health insurance in the United States. Many folks came to watch and the movie prompted some interesting dialogue.

Liat hosted a gathering on Thursday night for feedback and suggestions regarding her building plans. Liat is hoping to use the bus at one of the entrances to Dancing Rabbit as a shell for her home. She has come up with some really creative ideas that will turn the bus into a four-season dwelling including an earth berm, a greenhouse and a gravel bag foundation of sorts. I don't imagine it will look much like a bus once the project is all said and done with. A number of folks turned up for a lively conversation (as well as yummy snacks!).

New this week was also a group story time. A number of rabbits brought some of their favorite stories to read out loud and share. It seemed like a cozy way to spend a cold, dark and icy night.
