This is Alyssa here to share this week's events at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage.
This week seemed utterly quiet compared to the past few weeks. With Open House
and Reunion all behind us now, life seems to be moving at a slower pace. The
weather seems to have shifted as well and folks are starting to think about
fall/winter plans, the end of garden and building season, and generally slowing
down.
A few Rabbits were away this week. Kurt's father passed away last week and
Kurt and Alline headed out to be with family and attend the funeral. Tony and
Rachel spent a week on vacation in various parts of Missouri with Rachel's parents.
Sunday was Duncan's 10th birthday and true to Dancing Rabbit tradition, he
honored such an important birthday with a "spectacle". A "spectacle"
is often done by a Rabbit on a significant birthday (i.e. 10th, 30th, 50th,
etc.) and usually includes a daring act or big display of sorts. Anyone in the
village that night heard and saw quite a spectacular fireworks display for Duncan's
spectacle. Happy birthday, Duncan!
Nathan and Liat invited a few visitors to Dancing Rabbit this week. Christian,
Julia, and Michael biked from La Plata to spend two nights with us. They brought
with them harmonious music and lively conversation.
Ironweed has been working diligently on construction of the cob kitchen. Tamar,
Ted, Bear and Liat all helped install half of the finish floor throughout the
week. The finish floor is an earthen floor made primarily of clay, sand and
straw. A lot of work also went into preparing materials for the floor as the
clay and sand needed to be sifted prior to use. All that effort paid off as
the finished product is beautiful and will soon be dry enough for walking.
Bear and I had our first visitors since Zane, our one-month old son, was born.
Bear's parents, Karen and Bob, as well as nephew, Chi'an, came out from Kentucky
to meet their newest family member. They brought with them pictures of Bear
as a baby so that we could compare resemblances. We spent all day Saturday together
admiring Zane. What a treat!
A number of folks gathered in the Common House on Saturday night for a spontaneous
party of sorts. While I was unable to attend, I hear that there was some good
hanging out and conversation.
