Well, if this hasn't been the most unusual August I've experienced! I keep expecting the rain to stop and the heat to come, but the end of the month is nearing and it never happened. Bob Neese came by to show me some of the mushrooms popping up in his fields (which were quite tasty by the way) and he was quick to answer that it was like this in 1970. I'm glad to hear it is not unprecedented, but I wonder about it.
I have been really appreciating how great our neighbors are recently. Bob was biking up to Memphis to go to the dentist when his tire popped, twice! Various neighbors picked him up and brought him to Memphis, his bike, and back home. He says thanks!
Lorraine Kapfer has been generous to us for many years, as well as a pleasure to spend time with. A few weeks ago several of us helped her thin her fruit trees. We came back this week to harvest the peaches and have been busy since putting them into jars.
The folks over at the Knox County Nursing Home invited me to come by and give a little talk about Dancing Rabbit. If you feel left out, your opportunity to see Dancing Rabbit in person is coming up. We are hosting our 6th annual Open house on September 30th. We have tours all afternoon between 1 and 4. Bring your friends and family, and visit with us for a bit.
We were very happy to welcome Kurt and Alline back to Dancing Rabbit. They went to California a few years back to take care of Alline's ailing parents. They have wrapped up their business out there and have returned to live full time with us again. They left again briefly to lead a Sierra Club trip, but we hear that when they come back, we can expect to see them for a long while.
We had some lovely visitors this week. Dan visited us this spring from Wisconsin and liked us so much, he came back for another week. He has big dreams and would like to move here in the spring to realize them. We also hosted half a dozen students for several days who live in co-ops in Ann Arbor, MI.
