Hi, this is Geneveive from Dancing Rabbit. It's been
an full week here at DR, with Skyhouse working on some
finishing touches to their building. Thomas has been
helping them with some earth plastering of their
dining room wall, and their next step is to finish the
earthen floor in the same room.
We said goodbye to our visitors this week, but hope to
soon say hello once more to Chris and Michelle, both
of whom have requested residency here starting in the
fall. Chris is an ex-Military Policeman and Michelle
runs an online soap and candle-making business with
her sister. We're so glad that so many of our
visitors this year have expressed interest in coming
back to live with us. It looks like our community
will be growing fast, which is very exciting.
In our gardens, tomato season has indeed begun! The
past two potlucks with our neighbors at Sandhill and
Red Earth Farms have been delightfully decked out in
delicious tomato foods. My tomato plants went in a
little late, but the fruit is starting to ripen, so I
look forward to some tomato joy of my own soon (that
is, if I can keep the hornworms out!) In other veggie
news, last week at the potluck Sandhill invited us to
share in their exess summer squash. I never knew raw
squash was so tasty!
On the baby front, little Aurelia seems to be doing
wonderfully, and it's an ironic blessing when the
mid-day heat drives Ted and Sara into the common house
so we can all spend time with our newest member.
Aurelia is growing fast, and her cries and hiccups
have become a welcome addition to our village
soundtrack.
On Saturday, Devon, a Truman professor and friend to
the community, came to visit DR with her family and
her friend Talia. Devon taught a Modern Dance class,
which proved to be more athletic than some folks
expected, but still a lot of fun! Afterwards, she
stuck around while Nathan, Rachel Tamar, Suzanne, and
I introduced her to Contact Improv. We were very
grateful to Devon for sharing her dancing expertise
with us and hope she will come to dance with us again
soon. Meanwhile, she and her family are planning on
joining us to play Ultimate Frisbee sometime this
week.
On a final note, we are still looking for spoiled
straw or hay. If you have any you want to get rid of,
please leave a message on the main phone line, 660-883-5511.
