Hi, this is Geneveive reporting from Dancing Rabbit.
We're enjoying harvest time in our gardens these
days. We've been quite spoiled by all the wonderful
salad greens we've been getting from the Ironweed
garden. Our strawberries are starting to slow down,
but they've been so productive this year that no one
can complain. We're already enjoying mulberry and
cherry season, and soon the currents and black
raspberries will grace us as well.
Molly's parents visited us this week, and got to
spend some time with our community as well as seeing
some of the local sights.
Jenn returned to us from Saint Louis, where she and
Justin (a former Sandhill intern) had been visiting
some friends. She will soon be leaving Dancing Rabbit
to head home to spend some time with her family. We
wish her well and look forward to her return.
We've been enjoying spending time with our current
visitor group. One of our visitors, Brian M., shared
with us how to prepare tempeh, keefer, and kambucha,
not to mention serenading us on his mandolin.
Lots of people are busy these days working on their
houses and other buildings. Ted and Sara invited
everyone to design mosaics for the walls in their
house. One of our visitors, Brian L, created a
beautiful caterpillar piece, which Ted hopes to use
somewhere in the house. I enjoyed contributing to the
project by designing and installing a purple and red
sun. Some visitors and other members spent the day
finishing the wall and flu with earthen plaster. Ted
says well over fifty people have contributed to the
building and decoration of his and Sara's home!
Since most of us don't watch television, we like to
create our own entertainment. On Friday, we held a
night of hilarious improvisational comedy. Some of
the main performers included Rachel, Tony, Nathan,
Amy, Juan, and myself. We played a variety of
different games, most of which involved the
participants acting out silly scenes by suggestion
from the audience. Some games featured physical
comedy, and others saw participants making up funny
songs or bad poetry. A fun time was had by all.
As if that were not enough, on Saturday we had an
evening of dance. Nathan and Rachel shared their
knowledge of Swing and Lindy, and I taught 15th
Century Italian Dance called Petit Riens. I for one
can't wait until swing lessons start up again at
Truman State.
On a final note, we are still looking for spoiled
straw or hay. If you have any you want to get rid of,
please leave a message on the main phone line, 660-883-5511.
