Johari and Vito, and their entourage of the film crew, have brought excitement into our lives. And they have motivated us to get stuff done that has been on our plate for a long time. Tony worked with them to install the heated tank in our Black Jetta, so we could run used vegetable oil in the summer and biodiesel in the winter out of it. They helped Cecil brew beer, an activity which had been put aside for the cooler months. Cecil also helped them install new solar panels and batteries for the grain bin, their temporary residence.
They also showed off their special talents. They hosted a party in the common house. Johari was the dj and Vito was the bartender, just like in their New York City lives. They did a great job and fun was had by all.
It has been fun getting to show them around the neighborhood. We all really enjoyed the square dance in the Rutledge School. I appreciate how welcoming folks are, and forgiving of our clumsy feet. Johari and Vito also helped us load wood, to heat the water in the our common house. Thanks Rutledge School and Ann Muntz for letting us pick up their unwanted firewood. We pretty much always need more firewood around here and will pick up wood cut from roadsides, dams or wherever.
I had special guests this week. Dawn and Garrett used to go to graduate and medical school in Kirksville, but have moved on to Phoenix. They were back in the area and came for a visit long enough to help me with my research and teach a fantastic yoga class. Sadly, we are missing some folks, too. Tony went to Ithaca for some meetings and Amy went back east to visit friends and family.
Jeffrey celebrated his birthday this week with some of his favorite things. Folks played Ultimate Frisbee, despite the threat of rain. And we watched Willow, one of his favorite movies.
The rain has been something else! It's exciting and scary at the same time when that wind kicks up and the rain comes down almost horizontal. Everything survived and the gardens were happy for the moisture. The gardens are looking really great and we're enjoying the fresh greens and asparagus.
Music has continued to happen now and again. Tamar found a pair of tap shoes at the Salvation Army, and there has been a spate of dancing. Unfortunately, only one person can dance at a time, unless you are willing to experiment with the one-shoe-per-person dance that Tamar and Laura were working on.
