by Rachel Katz It was another exciting week, with many comings and going. Alyson went east
to visit her brother and his newborn baby. Tony went to Ontario to go to
the Board meeting of the Fellowship for Intentional Community, a nonprofit
that is based at Sandhill Farm. On the way he stopped in Detroit to visit
former members Jacob, Timothy and their baby Indigo.
Lindsey left us to move to Milwaukee, where she will be going to graduate
school. Jane is from the United Kingdom and came to us from Canada. She
had some trouble with her visa so she returned to Canada to see if she
could sort it out. We hope they cut through the red tape quickly and
easily so she can join us again to help build Skyhouse and make us laugh.
The most exciting arrival we have had is the birth of Sol and Cedar's baby
over at Sandhill. The baby was three weeks early, and the labor was hard
but we get the impression that it was worth it.
Alline returned home from her trip to the book fair in New York City. She
runs a little online bookstore called Community Bookshelf that carries
books about community living, ecology and old time skills. She was with us
for about a week, which was much too short. Then she and Kurt went up to
Minnesota to visit with Kurt's parents.
Alexis, a conservation intern from two summers ago, stopped by for a few
days on her way between her nature job in Nevada and her nature job in
Michigan. It was raining and cold but we still managed to get outside for
a little nature walk before she had to jump in the car and be on her way.
Wow, has it been raining, or what? The ground is squishy and the creek is
full. Tamar and Jeffrey hauled the canoe down to the creek and gave it a
whirl. They came back muddy and tired, but seemed to have a good time
anyway.
The weather has made the beginning of new outdoor kitchen season a bit less
fun than it could have been. But the well organized kitchen, fully
functional wood cookstove and new and improved system for dealing with our
wastewater (thanks to Don, Erik, Tom and others), have made cooking a dream.
Jeffrey celebrated his birthday this weekend. Tamar made him delicious
brownies with pecans courtesy of Bob. Bob picked them from his tree in
Texas and shelled them in the mornings while he was waiting for everyone
else to wake up.
Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage is a nonprofit and a residential community that
demonstrates ecological sustainability in Rutledge, MO. We give tours
Saturdays at 1pm. Please call first before coming by, at 883-5511.
