This is Nicole, and I must admit that I’m feeling more than a little
enchanted by this May weather, and my garden seems to be pleased with it,
too. The peas look so happy after this weekend’s rain, and the brassicas
look like they’re starting to stand up to the ants that have been bullying
them for the past few weeks.
Last week I was lucky enough to attend a makeup party thrown by Renee over
at Sandhill. Life’s more charming when you get fancied up every once in
awhile. It turns out that Jacque is a regular makeup expert, being skilled
in the arts of tasteful color selection and application. “Tasteful” wasn’t
a word that anyone used to describe my face-painting techniques. I say, if
a little makeup makes you look nice, then a lot will make you look
spectacular!
The last time I wrote, I mentioned that a little string and wind quartet had
organized itself, and that I had high hopes for its future. Well, we didn’t
get around to practicing again till last week, mostly, I think, because I
didn’t bother to schedule any rehearsals. Maybe if we had a name and a
motto, we would be more proactive about getting together. Any ideas?
The past week has seen the arrival of lots of exciting new faces. The
Johnsons, Dancing Rabbit’s newest members, arrived late one night, and a few
days later, it seemed like they had been living in the Timberframe forever.
I haven’t had a chance to visit yet, but I hear they have the place all
decked out. Tim and Jennifer’s enthusiasm is wonderful, and Rowan, Cynder,
and Toren have brought some much-needed youthful energy to the neighborhood.
Pelly the dog is sweet as can be, and there’s some sort of exotic bird
whose shrieks make it easy to pretend we’re living in a jungle. I hear
there’s a lizard, too!
Friday evening brought some unusual visitors and their entourage. Johari
(from Jersey City) and Vito (from the Bronx) will be staying with us for the
rest of the month, and their experiences at Dancing Rabbit are being filmed
for an up-coming television show. They both seem to be adjusting admirably
to the rather drastic change from their usual lifestyles. Folks around here
are also getting used to some changes in their routines, as it has been
awhile since there was a film crew wandering about the village. I think
it’s refreshing to shake things up around here every once in awhile.
