Hello-- Laura here. We’ve had the usual comings and
goings this week. Apple, who was visiting from Twin
Oaks community, headed home. We will miss her
wonderful sense of humor and all the hard work she put
in on the fencing for Skyhouse garden. (Thanks to
Johnny Erikson for the osage posts!) Arriving: the
Johnson family. We are very excited to welcome
Jennifer and Tim, along with their children Rowan,
Cynder, and Torin. Be sure to say hi if you see them
around town.
Aside from that, we do have some pretty unusual news.
A film crew will be coming to Dancing Rabbit around
the 5th and staying for about a month. They will be
working on a television documentary focusing on
people’s ecological impact-- the energy and goods we
all consume. They chose to come here because lessening
the negative effects of our daily doings is one of our
main shared goals as a community.
Thanks to all the folks who came on last Saturday’s
tour to find out about our alternative building and
energy, rainwater cachement, organic gardening, and
vehicle cooperative. From time to time, I hear people
saying some strange or false things about the way we
live. That really makes me sad-- in part, because it
means I am failing to reach out enough to my
neighbors. I hope that anyone who has questions would
feel free to ask them in a friendly way, and to please
come for a tour.
At the root of it, we all have so much more in common
than we can always see on the surface. Even within our
community, we have rough spots and disagreements, and
sometimes focus too much on our differences. It’s
important to remember that we all face the everyday
business of getting by, we all have loved ones we
worry for, and we all try to be mindful to make caring
and reasonable choices.
Of course, we fail from time to time. (Maybe more
often than we succeed!) This is human. But to keep
trying, to keep reaching for a deeper compassion, is
part of what makes life worthwhile. Much thanks to
everyone who has extended this caring and helped to
strengthen the beauty of living.
Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage is a nonprofit and a
residential community that demonstrates ecological
sustainability in Rutledge, MO. Please stop by for one
of our regular tours at 1 pm the second and fourth
Saturday of every month, or check out our website at
