Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage
Hi, Alyson here, taking my turn to update you on the Rabbits. This week I took a walk in the woods and saw lots of vernal wildflowers: yellow and blue violets, spring beauties, spring cress, trout lilies, blue phlox, Virginia bluebells, and Dutchman's breeches. I picked some of the cress and violets for a salad. No morel mushrooms yet, though... at least, not that I found.

If you come for a tour soon you might notice that the place looks a bit spiffed up -- we spent a morning all together doing some outdoor spring cleaning. The herb garden got some much-needed tending, signs were fixed, paths were mulched, the solar shower was readied for business, the floating dock was anchored in the middle of the pond, and the grain bin duplex received some flashing around the windows to protect it from the driving spring rains.

This week Stefanie organized an Ultimate Extravaganza: two-plus hours of ultimate frisbee for everyone who ever played, could have played, or wanted to play this high-energy game. We had the biggest teams anyone could remember in our community history. There were even plenty of subs--and Nicole as a cheerleader, jumping on the trampoline and inventing lots of ad hoc cheers.

Arjen and Stefanie left for a long trip to visit communities and friends in Europe, still searching for the right home. We'll miss them; they really integrated deeply into our culture here. Nicole brought them as far as Buffalo, and when she returns she'll be car-free. Bob finally managed to sell his car, too--Ted and Sara's friend Chris is buying it.

Sara went down to Tennessee to assist an old friend of hers who's giving birth. Tony and Rachel headed out to visit Rachel's family for Passover. Thomas returned by bike from visiting his family in Pekin, IL -- on the way back, he faced a headwind and was chased by three dogs. But he still had a smile on his face when he got home.

This Friday, April 22nd, is Earth Day. May you feel your connection and coexistence with this miraculous, nourishing planet with every breath you take.
