I am so glad to be back home, even if its only for a few weeks. I arrived
home with our dear friend Allette Brooks. She's a touring folksinger and
played a show at Truman State University, before moving on to the city of
her next gig.
We had many visitors from Truman State recently. Some photographers
stopped by from Detours magazine to shoot pictures to accompany an article
written by a student about us. Then 16 students visited us and Sandhill
for a day, as a field trip for their class "Expanding Environmental
Consciousness". After lunch and a tour, they helped us load firewood,
mulch paths, and weed and fertilize our fruit trees.
We are starting to get our shipments of this year's fruit trees. We've
already planted a couple of asian pears and are waiting for the rest to add
to our growing orchard.
The seedlings have been getting bigger in our makeshift greenhouse and Don
has been transplanting some into soil blocks. Its been hard to keep them
warm as the weather turned so cold. But now that its officially Spring,
we're hoping the warmer weather will come to stay.
We had a great time with visitor Rose and her son Eli. Among other things,
Rose helped Tony put up some cedar siding on the building we call Allium.
Eli and Don played many games of Magic together.
Alline and Kurt left on their long journey to California. We'll miss them.
Jeffrey returned home from his trip to see his family in Massachusetts and
Georgia with stories of his adventures. He brought us up to date on all
the recent movies, and it seems like he saw almost every last one.
Upon Opal Blaine's invitation, Cecil, Tony and I went to the revival at New
Testament church in Rutledge and we had a lovely time listening to the
preacher and visiting with our neighbors. Lindsey of Sandhill was
disappointed that she was unable to join us.
Thanks to the fellow from Memphis who dropped off some windows that he
salvaged from renovation he was doing. We'll certainly use them.
