It's Rachel, reporting on the first stirrings of spring. I've been surprised this week to see flocks of snow and canada geese already heading north. I also saw some migrating ducks and a flock of red-winged blackbirds! Spring seems to get a little earlier every year. But I can't say I'm sad to see it. The warm weather this week was fabulous. It inspired lots of outdoor activities like walks and soccer. And generally brought smiles to people's faces.

I actually spent much of the week at the Missouri Natural Resources Conference down at the Lake of the Ozarks. I went to present about the research I've been conducting for my Master's degree. I've been out in the fields around here for two years counting birds and have just one summer left to go.

While I was away, I heard that there was another visit to the Rutledge School to play basketball and fun was had by all. Folks also watched the final installment of the director's cut of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

By far the most fun event of the week was Jacque's birthday party. She loves to dance, so the party featured a dancing video game (called Dance Dance Revolution), a solar-powered strobe light and people dressed up in their dancing clothes. And there was plenty of yummy food and good conversation.

Kent came by to do some of the finishing touches on the Common House with Tamar. It's nice to see those last things finally get finished. But Kent took Andrew away with him to help him on some construction projects elsewhere. We miss Andrew, but know he likes to do the work. Ironweed co-op has started to get seeds into flats, in preparation for the garden season.
