Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage
by Rachel Katz

It's Rachel, reporting on Dancing Rabbit from the Great North. I was in town most of the week, so I have much to report, but now I'm vacationing in Guelph, Ontario with former intern Elizabeth, a.k.a. Mukluk. I came up to enjoy a little skiing and snowshoeing. But their winter has been as Spring-like as ours and there is not enough snow for those winter sports. That doesn't stop me from practicing my figure skating!

There has been quite an exodus this week. Susan and Erik left to visit Susan's parents in Fresno, CA. Alline also went west, to take care of her mother, who was recently hospitalized. We hope she gets better soon! And our friends Sara and Ted headed east to make it to Ted's parent's house in time for his father's birthday.

We watched our neighbors the Roes finally get their new house on the foundation. Congratulations! Seeing their success, we are ready to officially announce that we also intend to move a house this year. We are looking for houses in Scotland or northern Knox county, in any condition. If you have any leads on a house that would like a new location, please give us a call. We want to get on it right away and make it our new community house.

Speaking of construction, we try and only use reused or unwanted materials. Kurt took a little trip to Saint Louis to the Marvin's Window warehouse and purchased their "boneyard." That is all the odds and ends of custom windows and doors that weren't quite what was ordered. He came home with some nice windows to build into our houses, and also a few gems, like foam niches.

There have been plenty of fun activities, too. A group of folks went bowling in Memphis. Actually, half bowled and half knitted. A bunch of folks went to Kirksville on Saturday. Some went to play bridge, and others went to a bookbinding workshop. And last but not least, Alyson celebrated her birthday with a dance party.

Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage is a nonprofit and a residential community that demonstrates ecological sustainability in Rutledge, MO.
