by Rachel Katz Well, we just survived a week long retreat. We get together to plan our
coming year and make decisions, like what building projects to start, how
many interns to host, and what we want our priorities to be. Jacob, an
ex-member, helped us by facilitating all the meetings. His partner Timothy
(also an ex-member) and their baby Indigo participated by entertaining us
between the meetings. Ex-interns Ted and Sara supported us by cooking
lunch and dinner for us all.
When we weren't meeting, we had some great fun. Nearly all of us went to
dinner at Kelly's in Memphis and then went to watch a movie (some at the
Memphis Theater, some at Milkweed Cinema back on the farm). There's been
some pretty fancy footwork on the pond, and some days its been so warm
we've been skating without hats, gloves, etc. We've been enjoying the
smooth clear ice so much we took our annual group picture on it, despite
fears that the melty ice couldn't support the weight of sixteen people
standing next to each other. There was some strange cracking, but
thankfully we didn't break through.
I think we're all tired from our hard work of trying to understand each
other and make good decisions. Wish us luck as we tackle a year packed
full of exciting projects!
