After having a skeleton crew at Dancing Rabbit over the holidays, nearly
everyone has come back for the new year. We all regaled each other with
stories of our travels and showed each other the gifts we brought home from
our families.
Sandhill hosted a New Years Eve party, with a feast and dancing. Alan, Kate
and John who own Kirksville's new independent video store, One World,
joined us for dinner and the party that evening.
We've been enjoying all the snow. On several occasions a group of folks
went tobogganing, with our dog Baloo leading the way down the trail. It
was fast and fun and we only had to watch out for the drop off at the end
of the run, if we got going too fast.
We've had our first visitor of the year, a young women named Megen from
Binghampton, NY.
Sandhill and few folks from Dancing Rabbit were featured on PBS' News Hour,
for a long seven minutes. Our own Cecil was pictured showing off the
Dancing Rabbit website.
Speaking of Cecil, he made a fabulous dinner of pizza the other night. He
defrosted some of the pesto we made this summer and topped it with
sauerkraut, tempeh and vegan cheese.
We have reinstated our book group. We are all reading Lonesome Dove by
Larry McMurtry.
Sandhill had an all day game day, where some folks played board games for
twelve hours straight. Jeffrey and our visitor Megen joined them. Ceilee,
who was home visiting from college, won the overall day.
Don and Bekka, from Sandhill, housesat for our friends Dan and Nancy in
Canton. They enjoyed having the place to themselves, and kept themselves
busy feeding the dozens of pets and farm animals there.
Alline and I were on a trip over to Sandhill one day when we get stuck in a
snow drift. We were trying to dig ourselves out with just our hands, when
Charlie, our mailman, showed up. He pulled a shovel out of his truck and
helped dig and push us to freedom. Thanks Charlie!
