Sedentary Travelogue #12: Turn, Turn, Turn

- 10/18/00

The seasons are changing and turning unexpected colors (though why they seem unexpected I'll never know since it's a similar scheme each year). Changes are certainly afoot in my own life as well. Two bits of news to share:

First of all, I'm leaving Dancing Rabbit. It's been a hard decision and is in no way a reflection of dissatisfaction with my life here. I'm actually still planning on making Dancing Rabbit work my primary outlet for activism for some time to come. This ecovillage is still a part of my heart and soul and deeply fused with my life. Still, I am moving on. Where? To Detroit! I'm pretty excited about this. Detroit is where I was born and I have long considered it to be a prime location for urban eco-renovation. Property is cheap. The city is trying to support lots of revitalization efforts. Empty lots abound (can you say urban gardens?). Michigan is state filled with people who have strong connections to their natural environment, given Michigan's well-known and unique geography. My beloved Timothy is already there, and I'll be joining her shortly after Thanksgiving. In the meantime I am working here to wrap up some of my projects here and pass them on as best as possible.

This move begs the question: why? That's the exciting part and brings me to item of news #2:

Timothy and I are going to have a baby! We're thrilled and giddy with anticipation. We're going to have a homebirth, of course, and are even considering a water birth in the clawfoot bathtub. We have already chosen a midwife and are pleased to be working with her. Expected time of arrival of our new little friend is late April, early May.

I would love to write something eloquent and pithy, but alas all is drowned out in my head by the profoundness of the actual facts of my life right now.

More details on my life, life at Dancing Rabbit and the exciting realm of raising a child within a committed ecological lifestyle still to come.

Love and fiery leaves,
Jacob
