The Dancing Rabbit Health Care Fund, LLC (DRHCF) is a fund that was created in 2006 to serve people at Dancing Rabbit, Red Earth Farms and Sandhill. It is not insurance, but a community that helps its members get their health needs met. DRHCF does this by helping members find low-cost care and government programs that will pay for care. Members are expected to keep their costs as low as possible and take advantage of other methods of getting their major medical expenses paid. However, when there is a major medical event, the DRHCF, with the help of PEACH (a larger health fund run by the FEC), will help pay for remaining expenses, within certain limits.
In order to join the DRHCF, prospective members need to fill out the health questionnaire and then be approved by the group. This allows the group to examine what sort of financial risk it may be taking on. Folks who join the DRHCF pay a $50 one-time fee and a monthly fee of 0.2% of the previous year's income (AGI from their tax return) with a $20 minimum (which will be adjusted for inflation every three years). Fees are payable in labor at the DR minimum wage. It takes two years to fully vest, but the DRHCF offers some form of financial support for medical events costing over $2000, based on length of membership and value of the fund.
