Part of our work here at Dancing Rabbit is to develop a new culture specific to our place and ecologically-focused lifestyles. An important component of that cultural development is the arts. Art has many uses. It conveys ideas, feelings and thoughts and does so through a rich, visceral form of communication. It pulls a community together through dialogue and experience. It provides a process for exploration and personal growth.
Our artistic interests and pursuits are many and varied here. While many of us enjoy recorded music and going to movies or other shows in town, that only comprises a part of our artistic experience here. We also concentrate on providing our own cultural entertainment and expression locally. This includes dances, making our own music, sculptural design in our houses and other aspects. Read on for more information on some of our artistic activities here:
Art Night
While it is sometimes a sporadic event, we often host "Art Night", a very informal weekly gathering to gather friends together and create whatever kind of art they like amidst inspired and inspiring company and good conversation.
Artist in Residence Program
As part of our internship program, we invite an artist to come our community each year to produce art for Dancing Rabbit. Our first year of this program was a great success and produced our landmark mural.
House Concerts
Why go to a bar or club, when you can experience a concert in the intimacy
and comfort of someone's home? Of course, in our case it is sometimes more
appropriate to call them "barn concerts". In any case, we've begun a wonderful
tradition of hosting them.
Music
We have an especially rich music culture at Dancing Rabbit, so read more about it.
